Late in 2007, the PBS show Frontline aired “The Undertaking,” an in-depth look at a Michigan funeral home and the Lynch family, who have owned and operated it for three generations.
The touching and critically-acclaimed documentary was partly based on Thomas Lynch’s book, The Undertaking: Life Studies from the Dismal Trade and chronicled three families as they planned and dealt with a death in their family.
The Lynch family believes that the rituals of a funeral are more than just formalities planned by funeral directors. "Funerals are the way we close the gap between the death that happens and the death that matters," Lynch asserts. "A good funeral gets the dead where they need to go and the living where they need to be."
The Parthemore family, in partnership with the National Funeral Directors Association, has created a community presentation featuring the extraordinary work shown in this documentary. The presentation is an overview of the value of a funeral, the services provided by your funeral director and a variety of other interesting and important considerations for funeral planning.

More information about the documentary, by veteran Frontline producers Miri Navasky and Karen O’Connor, is available at PBS – Frontline http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/undertaking.
