Raymond Kneasel Zimmerman, age 78, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Annville and Lebanon, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Holy Spirit Hospital. Born December 1, 1931 in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Harrison J. and Katie Kneasel Zimmerman. Two brothers, Richard and Walter Zimmerman, also preceded him in death.
Raymond was a member of the 1949 graduating class of Lebanon High School and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War where he served for 3 years, 10 months on USS RICH (DDE 820). Raymond retired as a mail carrier after 33 years of dedicated service with the United States Postal Service.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Ruth N. (Bressler) Zimmerman; two sons, Stephen F. Zimmerman of Lebanon and Mark R. Zimmerman of Palmyra; two step children, Sandra L. Eakin of New Cumberland and Alan Myer of Dillsburg; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He also has numerous family members in the Lebanon area.
Raymond was proud to have honorably served his country and was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing, traveling and the theater. He was an avid reader, loved old movies, history and everything Disney.
Funeral services will be at 1 PM on Monday at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Burial with military honors will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Hanover Twp. Viewing will be held from 12 – 1 PM Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to the Helen O. Krause Animal Foundation, Inc.
