Elizabeth Dianne Huffman Morningstar, 65, of Camp Hill, PA completed her earthly life on Monday, March 22, 2010 at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA, after a 10 year journey with metastatic melanoma.
Dianne was born on April 30, 1944 in Timberville, VA, a daughter of Paul H. and Anna Crist Huffman who both survived her. She is also survived by her daughter, Amy Rist Korsun, wife of Brian Korsun, and a granddaughter, Keira Korsun, Richmond, VA and by her sister, Patricia Huffman Matz, wife of Kenneth Matz, Lititz, PA. A paternal aunt, Martha Huffman, Bridgewater, VA, and a maternal uncle, Paul Crist, of Colonial Heights, VA, also survive her, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dianne’s musical training in piano, organ and voice, began at an early age. She graduated from Broadway High School where she was active in numerous music groups, and at the same time, served as organist at the Timberville Church of the Brethren. As a high school student, she once performed a piano concerto with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra.
She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education at Bridgewater College, Bridgewater Virginia, and later entered the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, Illinois, earning a Master’s Degree in Music Education. She pursued additional postgraduate study at Westminster Choir College, Princeton, New Jersey.
Teaching music was a life-long experience for Dianne and the many students who loved her. She held teaching positions in Illinois at Glen Ellyn High School and at Elmhurst College, and was director of the Bethany Theological Seminary Choir, then at Oak Brook. In Pennsylvania, she taught at Elizabethtown High School and at Messiah College in Grantham. She also taught countless individual piano, organ and voice students over the years.
Dianne was a published hymn-writer and church music clinician. She served as organist in many churches, including Church of the Brethren, United Church of Christ, United Methodist, Lutheran and Episcopal parishes. Early in her career, she became the first accompanist for the Rockingham Male Chorus, Bridgewater, Virginia and later accompanied a chamber choir, JUBILATE, in Camp Hill, PA. In 1999, she was honored by the National Association of Performing Arts Educators to serve as guest clinician and performer at the Winter Choral Festival in New York City’s Carnegie Hall.
For the past 27 years, Dianne was Minister of Music at Trinity United Methodist Church, New Cumberland, PA where she served as organist, director of three choirs, and supervisor of a music program that included seven ringing and singing choirs.
Visitation will be Monday from 5:30pm until the Memorial Service at 6:30pm at Trinity United Methodist Church.
