Donald R. "Bucky" Shaffer
April 3, 2010

Donald R. “Bucky” Shaffer, 75, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of New Cumberland went to be with the Lord on Saturday April 3, 2010 in his residence surrounded by his devoted family.

 

He was born in Enola to the late Vernon and Florence (Carey) Shaffer.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Vernon.  He was a very patient and caring person who loved Southern Gospel Music and outdoor sports such as camping, hunting, boating and especially fishing.

 

He was a retired diesel mechanic and shop foreman for more than 39 1/2 years with Red Star Express.  He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Community United Methodist Church, New Cumberland; American Legion Post 109, Mechanicsburg; life member of VFW Post 674, Mechanicsburg; Eureka Lodge 302 F&AM, Mechanicsburg; former member of Harrisburg Consistory; Past High Priest of Samuel C. Perkins Royal Arch Chapter 209; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Harrisburg Forest 43; Zembo Shrine, Harrisburg and its Highlanders Unit where he served as Clan Chief in 1990-1991.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 52 years Leona M. (Miller) Shaffer; two sons, Jeffrey A. and wife Esther of Penbrook, Brian K. Shaffer of Mechanicsburg; a brother William and wife Dorothy of Dover; a sister Geraldine Moretz of Mechanicsburg; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

 

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Monday, April 12, 2010 in his church with the Rev. John F. Rauhut, his pastor officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services Monday in the church.  Burial with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Hanover Twp., PA

 

Memorial contributions may be made to either Community United Methodist Church, 16th & Bridge Sts. New Cumberland, PA 17070 or to Crossings Hospice of the VNA, 3315 Derry Street Harrisburg, PA 17111-1811.
