Betty L. Eslinger

Betty L. Eslinger, 87, formerly of New Cumberland, Lewisberry, and most recently Senior Commons at Powder Hill, York, died Friday May 14, 2010 in Manor Care York, South.

 

She was a retired Dental Assistant for McCracken Family Dentistry, Camp Hill, a graduate of New Cumberland High School, and made cooking and baking into an art form.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Cumberland where she was active with its Council, Boy Scouts, children’s programs, nursery school, bible school, WELCA, and served as an usher and fellowship hour baker.   Most recently she was also an associate member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in York, PA.   Additionally, she was a member of numerous area women’s civic and professional groups.

 

Betty was born in Milton, PA to the late Harry D. and Margaret (Emsweller) Lau.  She was the widow of Robert A. Eslinger and was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

 

She is survived by a daughter Leslie E. Ehrhart of York; a son, the Rev. Keith H. Eslinger and wife Debra of Camp Hill; six sisters, Jean Vonada and Mary McDonald, both of Watsontown, Harriet Hofmann of Glenville, Nancy Schmidt of Rochester, NY, Bonnie Collipp of Jessup, GA, and Anna Mahan of Bismarck, AR; three brothers, Mike Lau of Town Creek, AL, Sam Lau of Las Vegas, NV and Ted Lau of Navarre, FL; four grandchildren, Scott and David Ehrhart, Lara Eslinger Snyder and Stephanie Eslinger; and a great granddaughter, Caroline Rose Snyder.

 

A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Friday May 21, 2010 in her church with the Rev. Elaine M. Dent, her pastor, officiating and the Rev. Keith H. Eslinger, her son participating in the liturgy.  Burial will be in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to service on Friday in the church. 

 

In lieu of flowers, her children respectfully request memorial contributions be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 530 Bridge St. New Cumberland, PA 17070.
