Neil L. Barber, 83, of New Cumberland, PA and formerly of Milton, PA died Friday May 21, 2010 in Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Twp.
He was a retired metallurgist for Bethlehem Steel Corp., Steelton Plant with over 36 years of service. He was a Seaman 1st Class in the U.S. Navy serving on a salvage ship in the Phillipines during WWII, a graduate of, and class officer for the class of 1945, Milton High School, and loved Chincoteague Island, VA.
Neil was a 50 year member of Baughman Memorial United Methodist Church, New Cumberland where he was active as a Men’s Sunday School teacher and collection counter; American Legion Post 71, Milton; Milton Aviation Club; Keystoners Drum and Bugle Corps, Milton; Cub Scout Pack leader for Pack 63, New Cumberland; West Shore Photography Club where he served as treasurer; and the West Shore Geneology Club.
He was born in Milton, PA to the late LaVere and Catharine (Jows) Barber.
He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Mary E. (Snyder) Barber; a daughter Cathy Gageby and husband John of Biglerville; three sons, Richard N. of Biglerville, Terry L. and wife Debra of Harrisburg and Steven G. and wife Barbara of Enola; nine grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday May 26, 2010 in his church with the Rev. Brand W. Eaton, his pastor officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 pm Wednesday in Harmony Cemetery, Milton. Viewing will be from 10 am until time of service Wednesday in the church.
