H. Robert Nissley, 90, formerly of Allendale, Camp Hill and currently of Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg, died Friday July 9, 2010 in Bethany Village.
Bob was born in Middletown to the late Harry H. and Sarah G. Nissley.
He graduated from Middletown High School where he excelled in football and baseball. He then attended Horace Mann Prep School, New York, NY. With his athletic ability, he received a scholarship to Brown University, Providence, RI where he lettered all four years in baseball. Upon graduation, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force, mainly in Hawaii, Germany, and Japan.
While working in the purchasing department of the PA Department of Education, he received his Broker’s and Realtor’s Real Estate licenses. He completed his education at Northwestern University and Michigan State University and received his degree in Mortgage Banking. He was a vice-president of the former W.A. Clarke Mortgage Co., home office, Philadelphia. Later in life he retired from the Kissell Mortgage Co., a subsidiary of PNC Corporation, home office, Springfield, OH.
Bob served as president and treasurer of the Harrisburg Board of Realtors and was a past-president of the Harrisburg Area Society of Residential Appraisers.
He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity; Colonial Country Club for over 50 years where he served on its Board of Directors; Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Mechanicsburg; and a former member for over 40 years of Community United Methodist Church, New Cumberland. Bob was an avid golfer and tennis player who participated in many tournaments.
He is survived by his wife Marty, the former Martha Ann Koons, originally from Penbrook; 2 nephews, James Kern of St. Augustine, FL and Richard Kern of Miami, FL; and a niece Eleanor Buff of East Stroudsburg, PA. Bob was preceded in death by two older sisters, Grace Kern and Eleanor Nissley, both formerly of New Jersey and Florida.
A memorial service will be held at a future date. There will be an announcement in the newspaper when arrangements have been finalized. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
