Carl E. Spidle

July 31, 1941 — October 19, 2016

Carl E. Spidle, 75, of New Cumberland left to be with his Lord on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Pinnacle, Harrisburg Hospital, Harrisburg, PA.

He was retired and his multiple occupations included: Auto mechanic; Accountant with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue; and Admissions Manager at Penn National Race Course, Grantville. He attended Harrisburg High School, HACC, and York College.

An Army Veteran, he was a member of VFW Post 7415 and American Legion Post 143 of New Cumberland.

“Super-man” was indeed super. He was the ultimate family man. His family was everything to him and he never failed to show them so daily. Just as we were blessed with his presence, he was blessed many times over. His motto was “Never, never, give up” (Winston Churchill). And, he never did. He was as genuine as you could get, a very courageous and strong man, a true inspiration to others. He was also known as “Mr. Lucky”. He had many gifts; best known for talking to everyone he met, usually with a coffee cup in his hand. And in doing so, he made everyone around him feel important and comfortable. He was empathic and generous, a true and kind person. His melodious voice would break out into song – particularly an oldie-but-goodie - at just hearing someone’s name or on the circumstances going on around him at the time. He always had a song in his heart and smile that made everyone feel warm.
While his physical heart was his main health issue, the soul in heart was like no other. He championed through many difficulties, making them all seem so easy. He was undeterred by what others would construe as roadblocks. For him they were avenues on his journey to eternal peace.

Carl and Laurie were “happily ever after” married on Christmas Day, 1972 at Silver Spring Presbyterian church. He was a die-hard, dedicated Pittsburgh Steeler fan. He was a collector and aficionado of watches and pens.

He was a Corvette enthusiast going back from the days of race track and street racing days in his 67’ red Corvette convertible to the long leisurely drives in the countryside in his 79’ red Corvette Stingray. Throughout the years he attended the Corvettes of Carlisle Car Show, in addition to other various local car shows.

He was born July 31, 1941 in Hershey, PA to the late Carlos Spidle and Ruth Arnold. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Kyle A. Spidle.

He is survived by his “favorite, and only wife” Laurie R. (Dutton) Spidle; son, Ryan A. (Nicole Ravis) of New Cumberland; two daughters, Katy A. Spidle and Abby A. Spidle of New Cumberland; and three grandchildren, Ashton Mansfield, Tristan Spidle and Charlotte Spidle.

Viewing will be held from 1-4pm, Wednesday, October 26th at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland followed by a 4:30 PM Celebration of Life Gathering (with refreshments) at New Cumberland VFW Post 7415, 109 3rd St. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Hanover Twp.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to Fairview Twp. EMS, 522 Locust Road, New Cumberland, PA 17070.

The Spidle Family would like to personally thank the Fairview Township EMS First Responders and Police Department, his Doctors, the Pinnacle Harrisburg Hospital Doctors, ER and Nursing staff for their outstanding, care, support and expertise and to Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services for their support, assistance, and many courtesies extended through this difficult time.
