William "Bill" C. Reichwein

October 30, 1943 — June 28, 2019

Bill Reichwein peacefully passed away on June 28, 2019 at Spring Creek Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Harrisburg. Born October 30, 1943 in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late William A. and Eileen C. Reichwein.

He was a 1961 graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School where he played baseball and basketball. Bill was a Vietnam Veteran (one of the earliest), honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps, and later graduated from Harrisburg Area Community College. Bill retired after a distinguished career as a detective in the Harrisburg Police Department after 25 years of service. He was very proud of the fact that he graduated near the top of his class at the FBI Academy, Quantico, VA. After retirement from the police force, Bill worked as the Sergeant at Arms in the Federal Court House. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland. He was a life member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion Post #730. In his younger years, Bill was an avid golfer and loved to play racquetball, softball and basketball. He was also a skilled poker player and had a very unusual technique for winning at slots – he would charm the bank girls into telling him which machines were hot. Bill was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and New York Jets.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Shadle of Tower City, and Jennifer Reichwein of Harrisburg; two granddaughters, Tabitha Reichwein and Avery Kennedy, of CA; a sister, Joan Heberlig of Camp Hill; a brother, John Reichwein of New Cumberland; a niece, Sherryl Heberlig of Shiremanstown; and a nephew, Eric Heberlig of Camp Hill. He was preceded in death by his son, William (Billy).

Funeral services will be held at Spring Creek Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, 1205 S. 28th Street, Harrisburg, on July 9 at 10:30AM in the Day Room (first floor). A private burial will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at a later date.
