Allen E. McDonald, 80, died unexpectedly at his home in Dillsburg on Thursday, January 31, 2013. He was born, August 27, 1932 to the late Edwin D. and Dorothy L. (Irwin) McDonald and raised on a farm in Clearfield County.
Allen graduated from Clearfield High School in 1950, graduated from Thaddeus Stevens Trade School in 1953 (and inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005), drafted into the Army in 1953 and discharged in 1955 when he started work at Bell of PA. After retiring from Bell in 1988, he worked for Denver Ephrata Telephone Company and retired again in 1995.
Allen and Jean (Weaver) married in June of 1958 and spent many years traveling to various locations thru transfers with work. In addition to his wife, Allen is survived by his 4 children, Julie Withington and husband, Bryan, of Camp Hill; Jim McDonald and wife, Lisa (Owens), of Dillsburg; Jennifer Smith and husband, Roy of Etters; John McDonald and Kristina (Swartz) of Wake Forest, NC; sister, Joyce McCracken, of Clearfield; 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces nephews.
Allen enjoyed spending time with family, outdoor activities, hunting, playing games and was a handyman to many. Allen was a Boy Scout leader, a member of the Kiwanis in Clearfield and a member of the West Shore Elks.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, February 15, 2013 in Camp Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jon Uhlinger officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Twp.
