Andrew D. Barron

December 19, 1926 — July 17, 2020

Andrew D. Barron, 93, of New Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2020, after a courageous battle of two years with cancer.

He was born in Glen Lyon on Dec. 19, 1926, to the late Andrew J. and Elizabeth B. Barron. He was a graduate of Newport Twp. High School, Wanamie. Andy was a WWII Navy Veteran serving with the Joint Communications Activities. He was stationed in Guam during 1945 – 1946 and re-enlisted in 1949 and served aboard the U.S.S. Maury as a Storekeeper in the Persian Gulf during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged in 1953. Moving to New Cumberland with his new wife, Eleanor, he was employed by the American National Can Company, Lemoyne where he retired after 35 years.

Andy was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland, where he served many years as an usher and was a member of St. Theresa Little Flower Club; a member of the V.F.W. Post 7415 and American Legion Post 143, both of New Cumberland; the American Can Co. Retirees and the West Shore Senior Center.

Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Eleanor (Daniels) Barron; two sons, Richard J. (Danita) of Mechanicsburg, and Paul J. (Linda) of Ephrata; daughter-in-law, Susan House Barron of Hershey; eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by extended family and treasured friends.

Besides his parents and nine siblings, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Robert A. Barron and grandson, Robert (Robbie) Barron.

He always had a ready smile and enjoyed making others smile by giving out candy…. some called him the “Candyman.”

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 22, at 11 AM at St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland, with the Rev. Kyle Sahd as Celebrant. Burial will be in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp. following the Mass.
There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Theresa Catholic Church, 1300 Bridge St., New Cumberland, PA 17070 or Penn State Cancer Institute, (hmc.pennstatehealth.org), 400 University Dr., Hershey, PA 17033.
