Barbara Morse Lewis

October 13, 1927 — August 8, 2022

Barbara Morse Lewis, 94, of Lewisberry, PA, died Monday, August 8, 2022 at her home, surrounded by family. She passed with the same sweet, grateful and cheerful demeanor that she personified throughout her life. She will be sorely missed. Barbara is survived by three children, Clifford Lewis (Catherine Lewis) of Singer Island, FL; Vance Lewis (Lu Ann Lewis) of Orlando, FL; Karen Lewis Moore of Mechanicsburg, PA; Three Grandchildren, Debra Lewis; Christiane Moore; Aubrey Moore (Whitney Newhouse); Numerous adoring nieces and nephews. Her husband Marshall of 59 years and daughter Debra Lewis predeceased her. Her brothers Richard, Donald, Edward, Arthur, Roger and Alan Morse and sister Anne Conway (nee Morse) also predeceased her.

Barbara was born in Oradell, NJ, on October 13, 1927. She graduated from Dwight Morrow High School, and although she very much wanted to go off to college with friends, her father refused to pay for further education as she did not want to study teaching or nursing. Undeterred, Barbara worked at General Motors in NYC and saved up enough to attend Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA. Her education before and after Wilson included Columbia University, Katherine Gibbs and Northwestern University. In 1952, while working at Columbia, Barbara met and married Marshall Lewis. They moved to Chicago as newlyweds and started their family with Cliff and Debbie before returning East to Scarsdale, NY where they welcomed Vance and Karen. Barbara was a busy homemaker, spending the next two decades supporting her family and coordinating three more relocations for Marshall’s corporate career. The final job move was to New Canaan, CT, and they settled there for 24 years. She saw the youngest off to college and went back to the office full-time. Her husband retired to freelance travel writing and Barbara became his assistant and editor.

Barbara and Marshall were keen golfers and were able to travel throughout the world on various golf writing assignments. Upon full retirement they decided to move to Central PA to be near their daughter Karen and her young family. Barb loved watching her grandchildren grow-up, supporting them in sports, academic and creative pursuits. She was passionate about gardening, her NY Yankees, Michigan athletics as well as following pro tennis, golf, and most televised sports. For over 20 years Barb swam with friends 2-3 times a week at her beloved West Shore Area YMCA aquatics class. She was loved by family and friends, and admired for her constant smile, cheerful attitude and kindness.

Private memorial services will be held by the family at a later date. Contributions in her memory can be made to Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, www.tunnel2towers.org.

Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland, PA has been entrusted with Mrs. Lewis's arrangements.
