Benjamin Savidge

Benjamin Savidge died February 20th at his home. He was born on September 6, 1929 in Turbotville, Pa. Ben was the son of Barton and Grace Krumm Savidge.

Raised in Turbotville, Ben graduated from the local high school in the Class of 1947.

Shortly after his graduation, Ben enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served in Texas and Virginia, and
was honorably discharged from the then U.S. Air Force in September 1951 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Immediately following his discharge from service, Ben entered Bucknell University, graduating in 1955 with a degree in finance.

Ben was first employed by Price Waterhouse & Co. in its Philadelphia office. He joined AMP Incorporated in 1959 as a treasury analyst and subsequently held various financial management positions during a thirty-five year career. At retirement, Ben was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He also was a member of the Board of Directors.

Ben was a former member of the Lower Allen Township Planning Committee and of the Harrisburg Area YMCA board. He was an Eagle Scout, a Certified Public Accountant, a member of Theta Chi fraternity and the American Legion. In retirement, he was an advisor to the venture firm of DeMuth, Folger & Wetherill. He also was a director of Matcom International.

Ben enjoyed sports, both as a participant and a fan. He was a member of the Carlisle Country Club for forty five years.

He is survived by Enid Dietrich Savidge, his wife of 58 years; his son William and wife Dana Savidge; daughter G. Elizabeth “Chip” Savidge; daughter D. Ellen and husband Allen Conrad; son John Savidge and seven grandchildren. A sister, Mary Savidge Richards preceded Ben in death.

Funeral services will be private and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to a service organization of the donor’s choice. The family wishes to thank Homeland Hospice for their professional and kind care.
