Betty J. (Moore) Stanley

d. January 17, 2013

Betty J. (Moore) Stanley, 87, of New Cumberland, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Homeland Center of Harrisburg, following a very long and courageous struggle with multiple health problems.
Born in Omaha, Nebraska, on June 14, 1925, to the late Henry R. and Mary (McAndrews) Moore, she was the widow of Theodore J. Stanley, who passed away in 2004. Also preceding her in death were her beloved daughter, Sherilyn F. Stanley, and siblings Margaret (Claire) Wurgler and Thomas Moore of Omaha, Nebraska, and Elaine Gilbert of Vallejo, California. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela A. Needham and her husband, Charles, of Mechanicsburg, her beloved grandson, Colin C. Needham, of Mechanicsburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and met her future husband while working at Fort Omaha. Following her marriage in 1946, she devoted herself to her role as wife and mother. She followed her husband as his federal government career took them to various locations, including Tokyo, Japan; Chicago, Illinois; and ultimately to New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. She cared deeply for all of her family and left a legacy of love, generosity, and sacrifice. Known for her exceptional cooking and baking, she enjoyed nothing more than serving wonderful meals to those she loved and making each and every holiday special in every way. Exceptionally proud of being 100% Irish, she always made St. Patricks Day a grand celebration.
She inspired all by her dedication to the care of her daughter, Sherilyn, who suffered health problems all her life and by the years of care she provided for her husband at home after he suffered a massive stroke. She understood what was truly important in life. While she had many enormous challenges in her life, she maintained a wonderful sense of humor and a mischievous spirit. She was the worlds best mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed and forever loved by many.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at St. Theresas Catholic Church, New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, with the Rev. Michael McFadden as celebrant and will be preceded by visitation at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
