Betty Jane Karns

Betty Jane Karns, 94, formerly of Lemoyne, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 in Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Middlesex Twp.

She was a 1940 graduate of the former Lemoyne High School; a lifetime member of Grace United Methodist Church, Lemoyne; a member of the Order of the Eastern Star; a member of the Lemoyne Senior Center; and enjoyed playing Bingo, Bridge and Pinochle.

Betty was born in Harrisburg to the late Earl H. and Clara Mae (Bretz) Gates Slothower. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Elmer M. “Jack” Karns; her step father Earle Slothower; a brother George H. Gates; a grandson James E. Bankes, Jr.; and a great grandson Skyler J. Wenger.

She is survived by her children, James E. Karns and wife Andrea of Mechanicsburg, Jacqueline M. Bankes and husband James of Mechanicsburg, Suzanne M. Bishop and husband Larry of New Cumberland and Patricia J. Farner and husband Bradley of New Cumberland; two sisters, Barbara Jacobs of Glen Burnie, MD and Alice Golden of Camp Hill; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Betty’s memory are encouraged to Grace United Methodist Church, 309 Herman Ave. Lemoyne, PA 17043.
