Bobby Nakomous Sweeney

August 24, 1966 — October 4, 2022

Bobby Nakomous Sweeney, 56, of Etters, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 while doing what he truly loved – hunting. He was the son of the late Bob and Linda (Barkanski) Sweeney Sr., born on August 24, 1966 in Harrisburg.

Bobby was a hard worker, a family man, and gentle with all he encountered in life. He was a 1984 graduate of Red Land High School, Lewisberry, but managed to work 40+ hours a week pumping gas all through high school. He was a painter, and it wasn’t long after he entered the field that while with other firms before going into business for himself. He began his own business in the late 1990s, WIT Painting in Etters, where he focused on interior projects of all sizes. Bobby was an outdoorsman, known to scope out his hunting spots well before and after hunting season had taken place. If he wasn’t working, you could bet he was in the woods with his rifle or bow, or fishing on the Susquehanna. He loved the river and took in as many sunrises and sunsets as he could over his favorite body of water. He had faith in God, and was open about his Christian beliefs, often using his time in the woods to reflect. Bobby was a lifelong Washington Redskins fan; and perhaps his choice of team reflected the pride he had for his own Cherokee heritage. Above all else, Bobby was devoted to his family – his children and grandchildren, especially. Though he may have looked like a rough and tough mountain man, he was the most patient and tender dad and grandfather, and he supported them in all they did.

Surviving Bobby are his children, Kristina Sweeney and Bobby Sweeney III, both of Etters, and Emalee and Michael Sweeney of Ickesburg; grandchildren, Noah and Payton; siblings, Ronald J. Sweeney (wife, Kimberly) of Dover, Lisa A. Treece (husband, Timothy) of Etters, and Sherry J. Smith of Lewisberry; his uncle, Mike Barkanski (AKA Uncle B.) of Etters; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Michael A. Sweeney.
