Clarence Philip Daniels

November 23, 1931 — May 4, 2021

Clarence Philip Daniels, 89, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at home. He was the son of the late Clarence W. and Thelma (Beach) Daniels, born on November 23, 1931 in Aldie, VA.

A 1950 graduate of Washington & Lee High School, Arlington, VA, Clarence got the nickname “Danny” and went on to enlist in the United States Air Force. He served his country for four years during the Korean War as a pilot navigator. Upon his return from the military, he bought his first convertible; this would be the first of many he would purchase throughout the years (until settling down to raise a family). Professionally, he went on to begin a career in print sales that spanned decades. Dan worked for a couple different firms before starting his own business, CompuPrint, in Fairfax City. He and his wife, Anita, would own and operate the business, publishing magazines and literature for various government associations, and most notably, National Geographic magazine. If he wasn’t working, he was doing what he could to hit the golf course or drive to the beach. He was generous and full of life, and Danny certainly knew how to have a good time – some would argue his Scottish heritage had something to do with this. Above all else, Dan loved his children and his family. He lived with his kids in Virginia before moving to Pennsylvania in the last decade as he battled Alzheimer’s disease. The silver lining for his family was the amount of time they were able to spend with their loving patriarch and role model.

Surviving Clarence are his children, Lance Philip Daniels of Manassas, VA, Sandra Daniels of Manassas, VA, and Eric Galton Daniels (Connie Harness) of Hampden Twp; grandchildren, Philip Daniels, Taylor Mangan, Rylee Daniels, Michael Adam Sisk, Jessica Hollenbeck, Alex Daniels, Steven Daniels, Jordan Daniels, Matthew Daniels, Chelsea Daniels, and David Daniels; and twelve great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of more than 30 years, Dr. Anita Lee Daniels; a son, Michael W. Daniels; and the mother of his children, Edna G. Daniels.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. His final resting place will be in National Memorial Park, Falls Church, VA.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Clarence’s name to Alzheimer’s Association National Capital Area Chapter, 8180 Greensboro Drive, Suite 400, McLean, VA 22102, or at www.alz.org.

I AM FREE

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free
I’m following the path God has lain for me;
I took His hand when I heard His call
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day -
To laugh, to love, to work, or play;
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I found the peace at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joys;
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Oh yes, these things, I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow;
My life’s been full, I savored much
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seems all too brief
Don’t lengthen it now with undo grief;
Lift up your heart and peace to Thee
God needed me now; He set me FREE.
