Daryl "Scott" Stoner

January 12, 1952 — January 17, 2019

Daryl “Scott” Stoner, 67, of Etters, died on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, following a short illness. Son of Wilna Jo Walters, and the late Silvanus “Red” Stoner, Scott was born on January 12, 1952.

Scott was a graduate of Red Land High School, and went on to attend at Mansfield University, where he studied to be a teacher. Crediting comic books, for his interest in reading at an early age, he always believed that if you gave a child something enjoyable to read, it would motivate them to continue reading on their own.

Scott was employed with Fairview Township, working in their Roads Department. He enjoyed operating the grader most, and considered himself to be “pretty damn good!” He was socially active in the area; he was a member of the Guy E. Shelly, Jr. American Legion Post 974 (The Swamp), Fairview Twp., and he was also an auxiliary member of the James A. Danner VFW Post 537, Etters. Scott was also involved with the Goldsboro Fireman's club. He played on pool and dart teams for many of these social clubs. Scott followed the Dodgers, Flyers, Chiefs, 76ers, and Penn State.

He was also a man of routine. He would boat to Beshore Island daily, even if only for an hour or so. Scott had a more cerebral side to him as well. He enjoyed trivia and crossword puzzles immensely. He was an engaging conversationalist, with eclectic stories, facts and jokes that he’d share with those around him. He often retold stories from the past; but watch out, he could “spin” a good one! And although his humor was considered by most to be “unfiltered,” this was the Scotty we all came to expect and love. He will truly be missed.

In addition to his mother, Scott leaves behind his companion, Cynthia Gavin, of Etters; and his brothers, Stu Stoner (wife, Nina) and Dan Stoner (wife, Viki). Scott was preceded in death by his father, Sylvanus; and also his step-father, Calvin Walters. He was fond of his niece and nephews.

A celebration of Scott’s life will be held from noon-3PM on Saturday, February 2, at James A. Danner VFW Post 537, 1095 Pines Road, Etters, PA 17319.
