David L. Dietz

April 17, 1950 — March 10, 2018

David L. Dietz, 67 died Saturday, March 10, 2018, at his home from complications of cancer.

Born on April 17, 1950, in Mt. Wolf, he was the son of the late Robert Dietz and Pauline (Hively) Dietz. Dave was a 1968 graduate of Northeastern High School. He attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania for his bachelors in music education and later received his master’s degree from Temple University. He retired as the High School Band and Orchestra Director in the Spring Grove School District after 38 years of teaching.

Dave was a devoted father, husband, and mentor and worked tirelessly to care for his family and everyone around him. He impacted and encouraged countless students, many of whom continued on into music performance and education. He loved to travel and took high school music groups to destinations around the world including Hawaii, Europe, and China.

Dave was a member of Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and in retirement played euphonium in local music ensembles.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 27 years, Donnamarie DiLabio Dietz and three children, Julianna, Christina, and David Dietz. Dave married Donnamarie and had children later in life and left them way too soon. He always said his life began at 40 when he started his family.

Memorial services TBD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dave Dietz Memorial Music Scholarship. Checks should be made payable to the Spring Grove Music Boosters, P.O. Box 72, Spring Grove, PA 17362 and earmarked “Dave Dietz Memorial Music Scholarship”.
