David Michael Peter Bogdan

April 17, 1954 — January 15, 2021

David Michael Peter Bogdan, 66, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021 at the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence, Harrisburg. The son of Pauline (Futchko) Bogdan, and the late Albert G. Bogdan, he was born on April 17, 1954 in Harrisburg.

David impacted most everyone he met. Realizing early on that David had an intellectual disability, he started on an alternate education path at The Hillside School. Although he had his challenges, he was able to live in different group home settings over the years. He was a popular face when living in New Cumberland, as he would often stroll Bridge Street, greeting the residents and store owners with a smile and conversation as he walked up and down. David was a sweetheart and kindhearted man. His impeccable manners and charm made him a favorite among the staff, no matter where he lived. David loved chocolate milk, playing card games, and watching game shows on TV. He also loved to sing, draw and paint, especially with his friends at the Adult Day Program. He enjoyed going for rides in the car and stopping by his favorite restaurants along the way. He would sometimes sport a plastic sheriff’s badge on his shirt, and he would light up when someone addressed him as “Sheriff David.” He would enjoy being quizzed on state capitals (he knew them all), and he never complained about anything. Over the years, when family would tell him, “I love you,” he’d respond with, “thank you.” His family will miss their well-mannered and smiling source of happiness and love.

David is survived by his mother, Pauline (Futchko) Bogdan of Camp Hill; a sister, Barbara A. Stetler (Michael) of Mechanicsburg; two brothers, Peter P. Bogdan (Debbie) of Dickson, TN, and Mark A. Bogdan of Mechanicsburg; nieces and nephews, Matthew Bogdan, Andrew Bogdan (Stef), Olivia Walker (Chad), Erik Stetler (Angelica), and Kara Fernandez (Job); and an uncle, Frederick Futchko of Mechanicsburg. In addition to his father, Albert G. Bogdan, he was preceded in death by his aunt, Lucille Futchko.

David’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to everyone who has shown him love and support over the years. The biggest support system for David was his CPARC family, whose care ensured that David had a place to live and basic care to support his daily needs. He truly loved his staff, and our family is grateful for all CPARC did for David throughout his life.
