David R. Estes

David R. Estes, 92, of Camp Hill, died peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at home. Son of the late Roland H. and Lena (Tweedly) Estes, he was born on March 18, 1926, in Mattawamkeag, ME.

David was a WWII veteran, serving in the 773rd Tank Battalion, 90th Division. After returning home, he graduated from the University of Maine in 1951. He spent his entire working career with the railroad, which took him from Maine to New York (where he met his wife Audrey on a blind date), and eventually to Pennsylvania. He worked for the R.P.I.A. (later Conrail), and retired after 40+ years of employment. He was a Freemason with the Pine Tree Lodge #172 A.F. & A.M., Mattawamkeag, ME. One of his true passions was to be in his garden – preferably with his pipe and a good cup of coffee, both of which he would often “misplace” somewhere in the yard.

Surviving are his daughters, Virginia Thompson (Thomas), of Colonial Park, Trish Lapp (Michael), of Newport, and Karen Lee Darrenkamp (Robert) of Colonial Park; his grandchildren, David Lapp, Andrew Lapp (Melinda), Katie Lapp, and Daniel Thompson (Kirstyn); a great-grandson, Cole; a brother-in-law, Gerald Raymond, of Mattawamkeag, ME; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 50 years, Audrey (Hunn) Estes; and his siblings, John Craig, Hayden Estes, Eleanor Noel, and Kathleen Raymond.

A viewing will be held from 10-11AM on Thursday, March 21, at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland, followed by a Masonic and funeral service. Burial will follow services in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill, with full military honors.
