Dennis P. Rhen

December 4, 1942 — January 16, 2019

Dennis P. Rhen, 76 of Camp Hill, passed away at the Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital, Wednesday, January 16, 2019. Born in Lebanon, PA, he was the son of the late Paul and Gladys Rhen (Lebo). He will be missed by his wife of 31 years, Dr. Linda (DeCapua) Rhen and his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son David P. Rhen, wife Melissa (Pettigrew) and their children Ella and Landon; daughter Tanya M. Rhen, husband David Maynard; and step-daughter Maureen C. Lanoix (O’Connor), husband Andrew and their children Michael and Peter. Dennis’ first wife Rosalie (Rybicki) Rhen passed away in 1983. He is also survived by his three brothers, Ronald of Palmyra, Tom of Palmyra, and Neil of Lebanon, PA. and many nieces and nephews.

Dennis spent most of his school years in Mountville, Lebanon County and attended the Mountville Elementary School, a one room school. Dennis graduated from Northern Lebanon High School, where he is credited for naming their teams the Vikings during his work as statistician for their basketball team. He graduated from Millersville University in 1964 and began his career as a Social Studies Teacher at Northern Lebanon High. He went on to pursue a graduate degree and earned a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the Pennsylvania State University. He transitioned from Penn State to employment at the Governor’s Action Center in 1975. From there he went on to become Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Council for Vocational Education. After over 20 years at the council he was recruited by Pennsylvania Partners, and retired from there in 2009.

Dennis had a lifelong interest in Political Science, he was active in the Cumberland County Democrat Party and worked at the polls every election day. He was an avid reader focusing on biographies of American and World leaders. He loved travel, gardening, golf with friends, and spending time with his grandchildren. For over 30 years, he had season tickets for Penn State Football. He looked forward to Spring Training each year in Arizona to watch his favorite team, the Dodgers. He was scorekeeper for Camp Hill Little League and received the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2015. Most important, Dennis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a very kind man who will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held from 10 – 11:30 a.m. followed by remarks on his life and legacy, Monday, January 21, 2019 at Parthemore Funeral Home, 1303 Bridge St., New Cumberland, PA. Burial will follow at Rolling Green Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Polycystic Kidney Disease- PKD Foundation, National Kidney Fund, and the UPMC Pinnacle Fund (877-778-6110).
