Dorothy Y. Stansbury

January 23, 1928 — February 18, 2022

Dorothy Y. “Dottie” Stansbury, 94, formerly of New Cumberland, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022, at Messiah Lifeways, Mechanicsburg. Dottie was born in Waynesboro, PA, the daughter of the late C. Elmer and M. Matilda (Willhide) Yeakle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Yeakle, and a sister, Winifred Baldoff.

She was a graduate of Washington Township High School and studied cosmetology in Hagerstown, MD, before opening her own beauty shop in Waynesboro. She married R. Leighton Stansbury on January 28, 1951, and they raised their three children in New Cumberland, PA, where they lived for more than fifty years.

Dottie was a very creative person, providing a very beautiful and orderly home for her family. She enjoyed cooking new and unique recipes and trying new craft and sewing projects. She was an active member of Harrisburg First Church of the Brethren and was involved with Camp Swatara, Frystown, PA. She devoted many hours volunteering for both ministries. But most important of all was her family. Together, they enjoyed hiking, camping, swimming and bike riding. In later years, she and Leighton were “Snow Birds” in Florida, enjoying their little retirement home in Palms Estates, Lorida, FL.

She is survived by her husband of more than 71 years, R. Leighton Stansbury; daughters, Jane Hoover (Donald, Jr.) of Denver, PA and Susan Hogan (Michael) of Mechanicsburg, PA; her son Alan L. Stansbury (Deborah) of Carlisle; fifteen grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Viewings will be on Friday evening from 6-8 pm and Saturday from 1-2 pm, both at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp., PA.
