Douglas A. Pike, Sr.

November 28, 1930 — July 19, 2018

Douglas Allen Pike, Sr., 87, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2018 at Essex House (Lemoyne) due to complications from cancer. Son of the late James C. and Gladys (Wiker) Pike, Douglas was born on November 28, 1930, in Harrisburg.

He was a 1948 graduate of Harrisburg High School and went on to join the US Marines in 1949, spending the next three years at Camp Lejeune, SC, and reaching the rank of Sergeant. In 1950, he married Mildred Riddle, and the two enjoyed 58 years of marriage until her passing in 2009. Doug worked in the transportation industry for the Pennsylvania RR (PRR) and Hershey Chocolate, finishing his career with the Pennsylvania state government. He was a longtime member of the Boy Scouts of America and served as scoutmaster at St. Paul‘s Lutheran Church, New Cumberland; he was also an avid hunter in his younger days. After retirement, he enjoyed touring the USA in his motor home, and spent most of his remaining winters in Kissimmee, FL with Milly Pike.

He is survived by his three children, Douglas Pike, Jr. (Vikki) of Camas, WA, Donna Sgrignuoli (Gene) of Dover, NH, and Vicki Eurice (Jim) of Bel Air, MD; six grandchildren, Angela Sgrignuoli, Daniel Pike, Jessica Sgrignuoli, Lisa Pike, Philip Oliver, and Erica Sgrignuoli; and three great-grandchildren, Jack, Stella and Henry.

A graveside service will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 3PM.
