Dr. Eric Michael Hitchcock, 39, of Mechanicsburg died Thursday, March 13, 2014 at his residence.
Dr. Hitchcock was a Board Certified General Surgeon in practice at WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital. A 1992 graduate of Cedar Cliff High School, he received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Following his undergraduate studies Eric attended Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in 2005. He completed his residency in general surgery at Pinnacle Health where he was the Chief Resident in 2009-2010. Eric consistently scored in the top 10 percent nationally on the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons national in-service exams. Following his residency Eric entered practice in general surgery at Bayhealth Medical Center in Milford, Del. In 2012 he returned to the Central Pennsylvania area to join Wellspan. In addition to his board certification Eric was member of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, American Osteopathic Association, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association and American College of Surgeons.
He is survived by his Maternal Grandparents William and Lois Lee of Carlisle; his father and step mother Thomas M. and Susan K. Hitchcock of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; mother and step father Carol A. and Michael Hassett of Mechanicsburg; wife, Teresa A. M. (Di Fabio) Hitchcock and son Luke Michael of Mechanicsburg; sister, Andrea (Hitchcock) Felician of Mechanicsburg; nephew, Cole Eric; and niece, Lilly D.; a step- sister, Shea (Hassett) Headley of Virginia Beach, VA; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Eric was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, loved the outdoors, spending time with his family and friends. As was evident to all who spent time around Eric, his son Luke was the light of his life, a source of ceaseless wonder and joy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Bridge St., New Cumberland, Pa.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Parthemore Funeral Home, also in New Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to the Luke M. Hitchcock Trust Fund, c/o Members 1st Federal Credit Union, 5000 Louise Drive, P.O. Box 2110, Mechanicsburg, Pa., 17055.
