Dr. John Beach Logan

Dr. John Beach Logan, 86, a kind, generous, humble, humorous and disciplined man died Wednesday, May 21, 2013 at his home in Camp Hill. He was classically trained in piano at a young age, but preferred playing jazz in Philadelphia bars as a teen. He attended the University of Pennsylvania and received a Phi Beta Kappa Key in 1944. Upon graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1948, he began his residency in Psychiatry at Harrisburg State Hospital. In 1974, he was named Superintendent and later served as Chief of Staff. Dr. Logan retired from Psychiatry in 2002, after spending nearly seven decades in the field. During the Korean War, he was stationed in Japan as a Captain in the Army Medical Corps. He was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg. John Logan spent the last 40 years studying Tae Kwon Do at Kim Studios in Harrisburg. In 2007, he achieved a 6th Degree Black Belt, Master Instructor, through Grand Master Il Hoi Kim.

Dr. John Logan was born October 19, 1926 in Burlington, NJ to the late Joseph and Margaret (Hamilton) Logan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Stefanelli Logan, his daughter, Margaret Dyne, and Margaret’s husband, John. He is survived by three daughters: Nancy Logan (Edward Eschmann) of Carmel, NY, Catherine Hamilton (Don) of Etters, and Betty Pirie (Chris) of Mechanicsburg; eight grandchildren, Caitlin, Matthew, Evan, Alissa, Jason, Brian, Claire, and Ian; and four great-grandchildren, all of whom loved and respected him very much.

Visitation will begin at 6pm and will be immediately followed by the memorial service at 7pm, Tuesday at Faith Presbyterian Church, 1801 Colonial Road Harrisburg.

Memorial contributions are requested to be donated in his name to a charity of one’s choice.
