Frank Greenawalt, 91 of Hampden Twp., Mechanicsburg, died Friday, July 31st, 2015, at Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Twp.

Frank was born on June 4th, 1924, to the late Jacob and Agnes (Nickolson) Greenawalt. He was preceded in death by three siblings, Jacob, Robert and Laura Kreider. He graduated from the former William Penn High School in 1942. Frank joined the Army in 1943 and served three years in the European Theater as an MP and also in the Pacific Theater as a member of the 186th Infantry Regiment of the 41st Infantry Division. He was a diesel mechanic with the Pennsylvania and Reading Railroads. He retired from the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire with 22 years of service, and the Pa. Liquor Stores after ten years of service. Frank was a Past Commander of V.F.W. Post 7530, Lower Allen Twp. He held several positions over the past 25 years including President, Manager, Service Officer and Color Guard. He was named as an Outstanding 18th V.F.W. District Commander. He also served as the PA State V.F.W. Parade Chairman for two years. Frank was a member of the American Legion Post #420, Steelton, a Charter member of the Enola Sportsman’s Club, the Veravay Home Association and the Knights of Columbus.

Frank was the widower of Mary Jane (Dillman) Magaro. Surviving is a stepson, Joseph Magaro, and two step granddaughters. Frank was preceded in death by his best friend, Mary Boob.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday at Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Burial with military honors will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Swatara Twp.

Viewing will be held 6 – 7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
