Fred A. Gettys, 82, passed away on February 24, 2014 with his family by his side.
Fred was born May 17, 1931 in Franklintown, Pennsylvania to the late Glenn and Margaret Gettys. He graduated from New Cumberland High School, where he met his precious bride of more than 60 years, Yvonne. After serving in The United States Air Force during the Korean War and attending Gettysburg College, Fred began his career in the late 1950's selling Real Estate. In 1966 he started FREVON Builders which later became Gettys Development Company and was quickly regarded for his integrity, honesty and commitment to quality. Fred’s accomplishments in Real Estate include the development of several mobile home parks, new home communities and new home construction throughout Central Pennsylvania. In 2009, after a brief retirement from building, Fred made a comeback formulating Gettys Development Company, LLC with his grandson Steve, who he lovingly referred to as Stevie. He mentored his grandson who will continue to carry out Fred’s legacy and vision for the company.
Fred’s life revolved around his family whom were the center of his universe. He loved to play golf, travel and spend time with his loved ones. Fred was actively involved in The Republican Party and was a former supervisor in Fairview Township. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Camp Hill, the West Shore Country Club since 1968 and enjoyed spending many winters in Fort Myers, Florida where he was a member of Fiddlesticks Country Club.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne; his sister, Evalene Eichelberger; his daughters and their husbands, Krista Johansen and the late Stephen Johansen, Sr., Lisa and Leroy Sheaffer and Jana and Adam Siegel; as well as his eight grandchildren, Steve Johansen, Jr, Lauren Campbell, Michael Johansen, Jamie Esser, Valerie Hartel, Brett Siegel, Corryn Siegel and Mark Siegel.
Fred will be remembered for his kind eyes, light hearted smile, thoughtfulness, leadership qualities and his strong determination. The visitation will be held from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Saturday March 1st at Grace Lutheran Church, 1610 Carlisle Road Camp Hill, PA 17011 with a service following immediately afterwards. Burial will be in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp. A reception will be held at West Shore Country Club, 100 Brentwater Rd, Camp Hill, PA 17011 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.The family asks for donations in lieu of flowers to Grace Lutheran Church.
