George G. Pote

George G. Pote, 85, of East Pennsboro Twp., Camp Hill, died Sunday, October 16, 2016, at Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Twp.

He started his insurance career with Fidelity Mutual while in college. He moved to this area as the agency manager for Banker Life Company that later became Principal Financial Group. He retired from the agency to run a special brokerage agency with Principal Financial Group. He earned his CLU and ChFC professional designations early in his career.

George believed in giving back to his profession and community. He was President of both Harrisburg and PA Life Underwriters Associations in addition to being the National Committeeman. He was President of General Agents and Managers Association. He was awarded many professional designations throughout the years including MDRT.

He was devoted to Juniata College for many years and served on many committees. He was Class Fund Agent, President – Development Council, Chairman- Capital Gifts Program.
George’s family was very involved at Camp Hill United Methodist Church where he served as a Lay Leader, Trustee and Youth Activities Leader. He was also proud to manage the church softball team for many years. He was a great supporter of Salt n Light Youth Ministries which is committed to helping youth reach youth to fulfill God’s purpose.

George was an avid golfer at West Shore County Club and Evergreen Club in Florida so that he could golf year round. He also enjoyed hunting with all his Juniata friends. George was always there for his family and will be greatly missed.

Born on October 14, 1931, in Roaring Spring, he was the son of the late Jesse and Blanche (Brown) Pote. He was the widower of Doris Wilson Pote and was also preceded in death by a sister and five brothers.

Surviving are his wife, JoAnn Rogers Pote; two daughters, Denise P. Burkhardt (Karl) of Camp Hill and Darlene P. Fuller (Michael) of Columbia, MD; a step daughter, Kimberly S. Swartzell of Camp Hill; three grandsons, Ryan C. Murphy (Leann), Travis W. Murphy and Clifford R. Swartzell, three granddaughters, Jennifer L. Fuller, Michelle E. Fuller and Lillian K. Swartzell; a great granddaughter, Lucy A. Murphy.

Memorial services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday at Camp Hill United Methodist Church, 417 S. 22nd Street, Camp Hill, with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Gallaher officiating. Visitation will be held 6 – 8 PM Wednesday in Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland and also, 10 – 11 AM on Thursday in the church.
