George R. Mcmillan

July 15, 1927 — January 1, 2019

George R. McMillan, 91, of Susquehanna Twp., formerly of Shiremanstown, died on January 1, 2019, at the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence, Harrisburg. Son of the late Paul H. and Bertha (Singer) McMillan, he was born on July 15, 1927, in Bainbridge.

In 1945, George graduated from East Donegal High School (then located in Maytown). He retired as a Chief Negotiator for the Bureau of Right of Way, PennDOT; his career with the State of Pennsylvania spanned 40 years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Shiremanstown. He belonged to the Hershey Antique Automobile Club of America for over 40 years, and was a founding member and Vice President Emeritus of the Keystone Region Mercedes Benz Club of North America. He had great passion (and talent) when it came to erecting model train sets and landscapes – his HO Model Train layouts ranged from a small ring of track around the tree, to entire rooms filled with tunnels, bridges, a working roundhouse and elaborate handcrafted topography.

He leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Kathleen Adair (Wallace) McMillan, of Susquehanna Twp.; a daughter, Patricia A. McMillan, of Camp Hill; a brother, Kenneth P. McMillan, of Harrisburg; and a sister, Jean C. Myers, of Elizabethtown. George was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce A. Gibbons, of Elizabethtown.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in George’s name to either: LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry (lutheranchurchcharities.org), 3020 Milwaukee Ave., Northbrook, IL 60062, or Hospice of Central Pennsylvania (hospiceofcentralpa.org), 1320 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17110.
