George W. Lovejoy

December 21, 1927 — February 4, 2021

George W. Lovejoy, 93, of Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg and formerly of Lemoyne and Reesers Summit, New Cumberland, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2021.

George was born December 21, 1927, in Lemoyne to the late Anna (Davis) and G. Isaac Lovejoy. George was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Lovejoy, and his granddaughter, Janie Marie Lovejoy.

Surviving are his children, Michael C. of Gardners, G. Kelly of Dillsburg, and Kimmie A. Lovejoy and wife, Barb Ferrell of Satellite Beach FL; grandchildren, Joshua, Christopher and Jesse and beloved friend, Icely; great grandchildren, Kylar and Dylan.

George was a graduate of Lemoyne School Class of 1947 and a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 143 and VFW Post 7415, both of New Cumberland. George was a proud retired employee of Quaker Oats. His career at Quaker spanned 32 years. A true “company man”, his colleagues were like a family to him and he truly loved them and his time with the Company.

His greatest passion was time spent with his family and friends. George loved spending time picnicking with his family at their beloved mountain property outside of Gardners. He also liked to gamble a small bit, especially on road trips to Dover Delaware with his daughter Kimmie. He typically would “donate” more than he won.
George resided in Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg for 12 years. His life there gave him a caring, compassionate community in which he flourished.

We are forever grateful for the love and support we, and George, received from so many people in our lives. Great thanks to Kathi Sullivan and the entire Sullivan family for the many, many years of shared kindness, unconditional love and support. George loved his friends dearly and they were a beacon of light in his life. Mall walkers, puzzle people, slot players and breakfast eaters all had a special place in his heart. They were often seen looking at the “Dollar Menus” in the area, coupons in hand.

Due to Covid-19, services will be private and at the convenience of the family. George will be laid to rest with his family in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
