Harry E. Adams

July 29, 1919 — March 6, 2017

Harry Edward Adams, Sr., age 97, of New Cumberland, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017 in Pinnacle West Shore Hospital, Hampden Twp.

He retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 41 years of service where he served his last ten years as Post Master of New Cumberland; was a WWII Army veteran; a graduate of New Cumberland High School and attended Thompson Business College.

Harry was the son of the late George E. Adams and Ethel (Potter) Adams and was the loving husband of Josephine Acri Adams who preceded him in death on August 27, 2003.

He is survived by his companion Jean S. Fronk of Mechanicsburg; two sons, Harry E. Adams, Jr. and wife, Carole of New Cumberland and Augustus L. Adams and wife, Marilyn of Mechanicsburg; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Juniata F. Daylor and a brother George X. Adams.

Harry was recently honored by the Allen Stuart branch #500, National Association of Letter Carriers Union for his participation of 75 years.

He was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, New Cumberland; New Cumberland Lions Club, where he was very active for fifty years having served two years as President, thirty one years as Treasurer, and received the Melvin Jones Award; Eureka-West Shore Lodge #302 F&A.M, Mechanicsburg; Harrisburg Consistory, AASR; Zembo Shrine, AAONMS, Harrisburg and its Legion of Honor; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Forest #43, Harrisburg; and American Legion Post #143, New Cumberland. He coached Little League baseball for 14 years and coached slow pitch girls softball for 5 years. One of his great pastimes was playing golf and he was always very active in the community. He served for 29 years on the New Cumberland Olde Towne Apple Festival Committee and handled the entertainment.

Additionally, he was honored by the American Red Cross and American Legion Post #143 for saving the life of a three year old child who was drowning in a swimming pool while Harry was walking his mail route. Later in life, Harry coached this young man in baseball.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, March 11, 2017 in St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1300 Bridge St. New Cumberland, PA 17070. Viewings will be from 6-8 pm on Friday evening with a Masonic Service at 7:45 and again 10-10:30 am Saturday in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Burial will be in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp.
