Israel G. "Pat" Wertz

Israel G. (Pat) Wertz, 87, of Enola, died peacefully at his home with his family.
Israel was a World War II veteran who was captured at the battle of Anzio Beach in Italy and was a prisoner of war in Italy and Germany.
He was a graduate of Lebanon High School and Whitney School of Art in New Haven, Connecticut; a member of Chapel Hill United Church of Christ; a member of the PA Capital City Ex-Prisoners of War and retired commercial artist from D&H Distributing Company. He believed in supporting our troops, disabled veterans and civil rights.
He was preceded in death by Julia, his wife of 61 years, his brother Joseph, sister Jane, his father, Israel G. Wertz, Sr. and his mother, Elsie Keener Wertz. .
He is survived by a son, Malcolm D. Wertz; a daughter, Holly A. Sebastian and son-in-law, John W. Sebastian; 3 grandchildren, Autumn D. Edmondson, Gerylyn A. Sebastian and Vittorio G. Sebastian and his wife, Jessica; and 4 great grandchildren, Trevor J. McCloskey, Cameron N. Ortiz, Dante M. Sebastian and Talia M. Sebastian; and several step grandchildren.
Israel and Julia believed in giving the generous gift of donating their bodies to the Humanity Gift Registry for medical research. Both have been cremated and their remains have been returned to the family for burial.
A memorial service will be held at Fort Indiantown Gap Military Post chapel on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at 10:00 a.m, the day that would have been Israel and Julia’s 64th wedding anniversary. Immediately following the memorial service, the funeral procession will proceed to the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery where Israel and Julia will always be together.
