James W. Hess

July 20, 1919 — December 16, 2014

James W. Hess, 95, of Lower Allen Twp., Camp Hill and formerly of Portage, died Tuesday, December 16th, 2014, at his home.
He retired as a teacher and a coach in the West Shore School District and had worked in the Portage Area School District prior to that. Mr. Hess was a WWII Army Veteran serving in Italy; a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church, Dillsburg; a volunteer at Holy Spirit Hospital for over 28 years; a life member of P.S.E.A., P.S.A.R. and P.A.S.E. Born in Johnstown on July 20th, 1919, he was the son of the late Charles M. and Elizabeth R. (Clinger) Hess. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Lauri J. Beyer and Cynthia A. Minge.
Surviving are his wife of 73 years, Dorothy Marie Spicher Hess; two sons, Gerald L. (Sheryl) of Harrisburg, and Thomas J. (Beverly) of Baton Rouge, LA; a daughter, Lori J. Farro (Rick) of Springfield, VA; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 1 PM on Monday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Twp. with Pastor Wes Gunther officiating.
