Jane C. Turner

August 7, 1918 — February 21, 2014

Jane C. Turner, 95, of Lemoyne, died Friday, February 21, 2014, at her home.
She was a member of Pine Street Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg; The P.E.O. Sisterhood; Chi Omega Sorority; and The Harrisburg Study Club. Born on August 7, 1918, in Musselshell, MT, she was the daughter of the late Dean C. and Mary C. (Culbertson) Chaffin. She was the widow of Charles W. Turner after 74 years of marriage and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie J. Turner and a sister, Elizabeth Ryan.
Surviving are two sons, Richard D. (Rebecca) of Montrose, CO, Lee C. (Sharon) of Lemoyne; two daughters, Ann Turner of Camp Hill and Carolyn T. Benedict (Donald) of Mount Wolf; a sister, Geraldine Strong of Tempe, AZ; thirteen grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren.
In 1957 the family moved from Montana to York, PA where husband, Charles, became the Edsel dealer. That pursuit was short-lived and was followed by several years running a fleet leasing company called Trans-Lease. In 1968 they moved to the Harrisburg area and opened the Buick dealership which was sold to their sons in 2000.
An ever-present example of how to live life she will be profoundly missed by her family and friends. Her abiding faith kept her strong through the difficult times and humble in the good times. She possessed an expansive gift of love that was genuine and was bestowed on others without reservation. The family of seven grew to over 60, but her love for each was equal; welcoming each new addition with joy and awe. Her love was not just reserved for her family; for she felt love for each person she met no matter their station in life. Over the years she welcomed family and friends to her home for countless gatherings of all sizes and for a myriad of occasions. Ever the gracious hostess, even the caregivers who came to take care of her at the end of her life remarked that she treated them like welcome guests.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday at Pine Street Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg, with the Rev. Dr. Russell C. Sullivan, Jr. officiating. Private burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Twp.
A reception will be held following the funeral services at the West Shore Country Club, 100 Brentwater Road, Camp Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are respectfully requested to the Pine Street Presbyterian Church (pinestreet.org), 310 N. Third St., Harrisburg, PA 17101 or to Downtown Daily Bread (downtowndailybread.org), 310 N. Third St., Harrisburg, PA 17101.
