Janice Elaine (Shirk) Zeigler

November 7, 1948 — February 6, 2015

Janice Elaine (Shirk) Zeigler, age 66, of Lower Allen Twp., New Cumberland, peacefully entered into eternal life Friday, February 6th, 2015, at her home.
She was born in Lancaster, Pa. November 7, 1948, a daughter to Elam H. and Mary E. Hart Shirk of East Earl, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Garden Spot High School and received her Diploma in Registered Nursing from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pa. Her nursing career included Operating Room Nurse at Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg, Pa., P/T Charge Nurse at Blue Ridge Haven West and Nursing duties for Orthopedic Surgeons, Inc. of Camp Hill, Pa .She assumed management positions in the insurance industry including Manager of Worker’s Compensation Claims for Rite Aid Corporation. She retired as the Insurance Claims and Medical Manager for the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania in 2009. She was a long standing member of the United Methodist denomination; her personal belief in God will continue to be her guiding strength.
Janice had a love for good food and was an accomplished gourmet cook. She enjoyed crocheting, reading and meeting with her book club. An accomplished sailor who handled her 36 foot sloop with ease, she also dearly loved to travel in her motor coach, having traveled over 50,000 miles throughout the country and Canada. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her daughter and grandson and with her husband’s children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her loving husband, Paul L. Zeigler; a daughter, Beth Ann (Buyakowski) Parkinson and her husband, Rick, of El Paso, TX; a brother, William H. Shirk of Narvon Twp.; a sister, Jean M. Shirk of Derry, NH; a grandson, Cooper E. Parkinson; a niece, Josie M. Weaver of Derry, NH, and a nephew, Jason C. Weaver of Brazil.
A celebration of life will be held for family and friends with a date and location to be determined.
