Jean Lois (Vanalman) Lyter

March 10, 1937 — December 1, 2021

Jean Lois (Vanalman) Lyter, 84, of New Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Chapel Pointe Retirement Community, Carlisle. Born on March 10, 1937 in Lewistown, she would become an LPN (licensed practical nurse), retiring from Harrisburg Hospital after a 43-year career in the newborn nursery and pediatric unit.

Jean was passionate about more than just her career. She was a nurturer by profession, but naturally as well, always the consummate mother, nurse and caretaker for her family. She loved her husband, children and grandchildren beyond compare, and her faith was what kept her driven all the way through. She was soft spoken, but without question the backbone of the family. Most of her life, Jean lived right across the street from her church, New Cumberland First Church of God, where she actively participated and volunteered. She enjoyed her church family, country music, and weekly shopping and lunch dates with her twin sister. Jean leaves behind a legacy; her family will continue to admire the strength and will she displayed throughout the years, especially as she battled Parkinson’s disease. She was the best mother and Mimi, leaving a void in her family’s hearts, impossible to fill.

Surviving Jean is her daughter, Lois Jean Lyter-Baltzley (husband, Robert) of Mechanicsburg; a son, Richard Anthony Lyter of Woodstock, MD; five grandchildren, Shina, Tara, Richard, Jeremy and Robbie; four great-grandchildren; a step-brother, Jack Norris (wife, Lois) of Mechanicsburg; and many nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Richard Earl Lyter; a daughter, Lisa Ann Lyter; father, Paul D. Vanalman; mother and step-father, LeRoy H. and Kathryn E. (Singer) Norris; and two sisters, Joan L. Costello and Kathleen A. Rheinheimer.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30AM on Friday, December 10, 2021 at New Cumberland First Church of God, 323 Reno Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070. A public viewing will be held the hour prior to services in the church. Burial will follow in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill. The family requests that masks be worn by friends and family for the protection of all.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Jean’s name to either: Parkinson’s Foundation (www.parkinson.org) or New Cumberland First Church of God (www.ncfcog.org).
