Joan B. (O'Malley) Moore

Joan B. (O’Malley) Moore, 86, formerly of Bethany Towers, Mechanicsburg, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at home, with her loving family at her bedside. Daughter of the late Joseph and Doris (Litzenberger) O’Malley, she was born on February 2, 1934.

Joan was born in Wilkes-Barre, but relocated with her family (age 8) to Baltimore, MD. It was there that she spent most of her youth and life as a young adult. She graduated in 1952 from Seton High School in Baltimore, MD. In 1977, the family moved to the Central PA area. Joan retired from the former Blue Shield, Camp Hill, where she worked up until the mid-1990s. She was a woman of faith, devoting her time to the Catholic Church. While at St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland, she spent time making visits and praying at the adoration chapel, she was a member of the Legion of Mary and Sisters of Pauline, and she helped initiate newcomers to the church through the RCIA program. In her younger days she would enjoy going out dancing and playing pinochle with her family. She enjoyed being a grandmother to her 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Joan is survived by her children, Joan Chiara (Jack); Lisa Vasilak (Paul); Lynn Kearney (Michael Sr.), and Alan Moore (Jillian Fulford); grandchildren, Brittany Stewart (Craig Stewart), John Chiara, Benjamin Chiara, Patrick Kearney (Tabetha Troutman), Joseph Kearney (Samantha Kearney), Johanna Chiara, Joseph Vasilak, Michael Kearney Jr., John Kearney, Maria Mansell (Stephen Mansell), Peter Vasilak, Sophia Kearney, Anthony Kearney, Magdalen Chiara, Mary-Kate Vasilak, Gabriel Kearney, Siena Vasilak, and Thomas Vasilak; great-grandchildren, Carter Troutman and Sky Antony Kearney; brothers, Joseph O'Malley Jr. and Robert O'Malley; sisters, Theresa Smith, Dori Martel, and Kathleen O'Malley; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley William Moore.

A public viewing will take place from 2-6PM on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at her daughter’s residence: 1040 Kunkles Mill Road, Lewisberry, PA 17339. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM the following day, Wednesday, November 25, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland. Interment will immediately follow mass in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
