Joan S. Prescott

Joan S. Prescott, 91, of Camp Hill, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 in VibraLife, Mechanicsburg, PA.


Joan was a retired English teacher with the West Shore School District, beginning her career at Allen Junior High School and retiring from Cedar Cliff High School. She was also the Yearbook Advisor at both schools.


Joan was a graduate of John Harris High School, Harrisburg, and received both her Bachelor of Science degree and her M.Ed. from Shippensburg University. She was an adjunct professor at Harrisburg Area Community College and at Penn State Harrisburg. She was also the former Executive Director for the Harrisburg City Schools Foundation.


She was a published author, having compiled a book of poetry called “A Poet for the Ages.” She was an exceptional fundraiser and was the chairperson for many large galas benefitting charitable organizations including the American Cancer Society, the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the American Diabetes Association. She was a member of Camp Hill Presbyterian Church, where she was a deacon and elder, the Rotary Club of Harrisburg and the Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation. She was the first woman president of the Pennsylvania Foreign Policy Association, a past president of the Friends of the State Museum and a past president of the West Shore Education Association.


Joan was born in Harrisburg, the daughter of the late George A. and Edna G. (Evans) Schwartz. She was the widow of William T. Prescott, Jr., the love of her life.


She is survived by her two daughters, Deborah L. Prescott of Camp Hill and Pamela L. Field of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Tyler William Prescott (wife Rachele Michele Prescott) of Thousand Oaks, CA and Alexa Lee Partin of Camp Hill; and a great granddaughter Evangeline Thomas Prescott.


Visitation with the family will be at 10 am Wednesday, October 19, 2022, in Camp Hill Presbyterian Church, 101 N. 23rd St. Camp Hill, PA with funeral services following at 11 am, the Rev’s Donald Potter and Stuart Seelman officiating. Burial will be at Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Township.


In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions in Joan’s memory to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
