John F. Waddington

March 8, 1951 — May 9, 2020

John F. Waddington, 69, of Mechanicsburg, died on Saturday, May 9, 2020, at home. Son of the late Harold T. and Anne (Wicker) Waddington, he was born on March 8, 1951.

John was a graduate of Cedar Cliff High School (’69), and he went on to work as a parts manager for (the former) Hartman Toyota in Harrisburg, and LB Smith Ford/Lincoln in Lemoyne. He had a passion for reading, and insisted on paging through books when electronic devices became available. John enjoyed many types of sports, but fanatically followed PSU football and the Philly professional sport teams throughout his life. He also admired the work of rock and roll musicians and was very respectful of nature. He was fond of feeding the wild birds, and particularly compassionate toward stray cats in his neighborhood, always offering food and shelter. John’s big heart extended beyond his rescued pets – his family, friends and neighbors will miss him tremendously.

Surviving John is his son, Justin M. Waddington of Newburg; granddaughter, Tamara L. Waddington of Dillsburg; a sister and brothers, Ruth Anne Patrick of Mechanicsburg, Tom Waddington (Aundria) of Lemoyne, and David Perry (Wanda) of Thomasville, NC; nieces, Billie Jo Isbell (Ben & Brandi) of Cogan Station, and Hannah N. Waddington of Camp Hill; and nephews, Joshua J. Patrick and Shawn C. Patrick of Mechanicsburg, and Ryan T. Waddington of Camp Hill; and two great-nieces, Azzlynn and Hayley Patrick of Mechanicsburg.

A private memorial service will be scheduled and held at a later date.
