John H. Mateer, Jr.

John H. Mateer, Jr., 67, of Etters, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017 in his residence.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving two tours in Vietnam before continuing his service and retiring from the U.S. Navy as a Boatswain, First Class. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland; VFW Post 537, Etters; and enjoyed hunting and four-wheeling. He had a special love for his canine companion “Bosin”, but his greatest love in life was his family, especially his grandchildren.

John was born in Harrisburg to the late John H. and Minnie (Smith) Mateer, Sr.

He is survived by his loving wife Bernadette (Gasperetti) Mateer; children, Amanda L. Fuhrman of Etters, Erika L. Kline of Etters and Nathan L. Yinger of Lewisberry; siblings, Carl Mateer of Carlisle, Debora Colson of Newport News, VA, George Mateer of New Cumberland, Keith Mateer of Etters and Dale Mateer of New Cumberland; and five grandchildren, Ian, Evan, Mason, Megan and Katie.

A viewing will be held from 6-8 pm on Wednesday in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 9 am on Thursday, June 15, 2017 in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Twp.
