John J. Walsh, Jr., 60, of New Cumberland, PA died Friday, January 25, 2013 in the Carolyn Croxton Slane Residence, a service of Hospice of Central PA.
He was a retired Sgt. 1st Class, U.S. Army and a retired Computer Analyst for Companion Technologies (Healthport), based in SC. Johns military career included two tours in Asia including Japan and Korea. Some of his accomplishments were the Meritorious Service Award, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Korean Duty Service Medal, and the U.S. Army Recruiting Command Gold Badge with 3 Sapphire Stars. He was a life member of the NRA, life member, Past Commander and Past Quartermaster of VFW Post 7415, New Cumberland, life member American Legion Post 143, New Cumberland, life member and Past Seam Squirrel of Pup Tent 92 Military Order of the Cootie, member of Voiture 269 40 et 8, West Shore AmVets Post 528, and St. Theresa Parish Knights of Columbus Council 8921 New Cumberland.
John was born in Pittsburgh to the late John J. Sr. and Sylvia Mae (Bigley) Walsh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Nell (White) Walsh.
He is survived by a son and two daughters, John J., III of Chadds Ford, Jennifer M. Walsh of New Cumberland and Jillian N. Walsh of Elkton, MD; two sisters and two brothers, Joyce Malloy, Judith Walsh, James Walsh and Joseph Walsh, all of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 7pm on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 in Parthemore Funeral Home Cremation Services, New Cumberland with the Rev. Timothy L. Hoffman officiating. Viewing will be from 5-6:45 pm Wednesday in the funeral home. There will be a combined VFW, American Legion service at 6:45. Burial with military honors will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, February 1, 2013 in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Hanover Twp., PA.
