Joseph Carroll, 89, of Carlisle, passed from this earth into heaven on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the Church of God Home, Carlisle.
He was born on November 10, 1923 in Philadelphia. He was the ninth and last surviving child of the late Michael and Susan (Dunne) Carroll who emigrated to the United States from County Cavan, Ireland in the early 1900s. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight siblings, Thomas, Margaret, James, John, Anne, Edward, Catherine and Mary.
Mr. Carroll was a veteran of WWII, serving 20 years in the Navy and retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He later retired from the Hershey Medical Center, Dery Twp., PA.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jessie (Hockenberry) Carroll whom he married on May 4, 1948; four sons, Stephen and wife Teresa of Duncannon, Michael and wife Karen of Gardners, Timothy and wife Teresa of Dillsburg and Kevin and wife Melanie of New Cumberland; two daughters, Joan Wonders and husband Kenneth of Boiling Springs and Margaret Young and husband Harry Cork of Columbia; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, January 17, 2013 in Fairview Bethel Church of God, 800 Old Forge Rd. New Cumberland. Viewing will be one hour prior to services Thursday in the church. Burial with military honors will be in Fairview Bethel Cemetery, New Cumberland.
