Joseph P. Murphy

March 20, 1947 — April 14, 2020

Joseph P. Murphy, of New Cumberland, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 in his residence.

He was a graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School, Harrisburg; retired from International Association of Iron Workers, Local 404, Harrisburg; and a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland and its Knights of Columbus, Council #8921.

Joe was also a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War with the 1st Force Reconnaissance Unit. He enjoyed golfing and once had a hole in one playing in the Gittlen Cancer Research Outing and was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan. But more than anything, he enjoyed coaching and watching his son play baseball. He never missed a game.

Joe was born in Wilkes Barre, PA to the late James and Sophia Murphy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother James.

He is survived by his wife Jacky (Cline) Murphy; children, Nicole Knepp of Middletown and Joey P. Murphy, Jr. of New Cumberland; step daughter Katrina Cline of Berkshire, MA; siblings, John G. “Jack” Murphy of Cape May Court House, NJ, Anne Marie Birch of Mechanicsburg and Michael P. Murphy of Mechanicsburg.

A graveside service with full military honors will be scheduled as soon as the current COVID quarantine allows services to be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Twp.
