Karen Long Chervenitski

January 7, 1958 — April 24, 2020

Karen Long Chervenitski, 62, of Lewisberry, passed away after extensive health issues that lasted decades, on Friday, April 24, 2020, at home, with her husband by her side. Daughter of the late Earl R. and Evelyn (Brenneman) Long, she was born on January 7, 1958 in York.

Karen was a graduate of Northeastern High School (‘75), but her schooling was far from over. She put herself through Radio Broadcasting School, and then later studied the fine art of natural medicine, becoming a master of Homeopathy and Herbology. She held different office positions early in her career, but went on to work at Diocesan Publications and then Emergency Health Services Federation (EHSF), both located in New Cumberland.

She had an insatiable appetite to learn, and read just about anything she could get her hands on – her library was extensive. Her love of reading intertwined with her proficiency in grammar and superb proofreading skills. Karen proofed all sorts of text, ranging from medical and graduate-level abstracts, to legal and educational writings. No matter the time and place in her life, Karen was reading or proofing behind the scenes. Not only did she read and proofread authored over 300 published articles and puzzles.

Competing with her interest in reading was her love for natural medicine, and the benefits derived from this field of study. She used this education to become a master of homeopathy and herbology; additionally, she ventured into the fields of aromatherapy, reflexology, acupressure, massage therapy and the use of Bach flower remedies. Combining these tools, Karen used this knowledge to naturally restore balance in the body. Discovering the truth behind natural medicine, and sharing her passion with others, became a focal point in her life.

Mathematics came easily for her too, but her interests in reading, writing and natural medicine superseded this knack. Outside of her academic brilliance, she enjoyed comedy and music, gardening and fishing, making potpourri, rubber stamping, metal detecting, and making friends wherever she went. She was full of empathy and very understanding; she was the model for gentleness and compassion, and was always quick with a kind word. At the same time, she was never a shrinking violet – she was a strong and independent woman, full of life and love. She shared this love with those around her. She was a member of the church of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and went home to be with Him.

Her loving husband will miss her tremendously, although he’s comforted in knowing that there will one day be a reunion, beyond this world. She will very much be missed, but never forgotten, and ALWAYS loved.

A Celebration of Life will be arranged for a future date which has not yet been determined.
