Katherine Collins Cox, 93, formerly of Camp Hill, died Friday, December 14, 2012 in Harrisburg Hospital after a very active life.
She was a 1941 graduate of Denison University in Granville, OH where she was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, and retired as a Physical Education Teacher in the Springfield School District, Delaware Co., PA. Kay was a life member of the American Association of University Women, the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, Appalachian Mountain Club, and for many years an active member of the Penn-Cumberland Garden Club, Newcomer and Friends of the Capital Area, and Camp Hill Womens Club. She was a womans advocate and founder of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Delaware County, supporter of the Unitarian Universalists of Cumberland County, and life member and welcoming face of the Unitarian Church of Harrisburg. For several years Kay was a member of the Joseph Priestley District of the Unitarian Universalist Association Women and Religion organization, and a member of the board of trustees for the Murray Grove Unitarian Universalist Conference Center in Lanoka Harbor, NJ.
She was born in Norwood, OH to the late H.W.T. and Amy Olive (Danks) Collins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of more than 67 years, J. Frederic Cox 2nd, and an infant daughter, Marjorie Elizabeth Cox.
Katherine is survived by her son David C. Cox and wife Rosemary D. (Donlevy) of Camp Hill; two grandsons, Kevin C. Cox and wife Dana L. (Agnew) and Michael D. Cox; and a great granddaughter Lauren A. Cox.
A memorial service to celebrate Katherines life will be held at 10am, on Saturday, December 22nd at the Unitarian Church of Harrisburg located at 1280 Clover Lane, Harrisburg, PA 17113-1098 with the Reverend Howard N. Dana officiating. Burial will be at a future date in North Cemetery, Sturbridge, MA. Visitation with the family will be following the service.
