Larry J. Blazer

March 28, 1943 — July 1, 2021

Larry J. Blazer, 78, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at home. He was the son of the late Carl and Alvadee (Zinn) Blazer, born on March 28, 1943 in Camp Hill.

Larry was always working, whether he was getting paid for his time or simply helping others. He was handy and easy to get along with, so naturally he was in high demand. He was an early riser, always up and setting out to accomplish something. Perhaps this was learned through his time in the military, serving four years in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. Working in construction, he built bridges as a young man, and he managed to fall off of only one of them! When raising a family with his wife, Kim, he was always considered the softer of the two, or the one you went to when you thought mom would say “no.” He began working nights at the former New Cumberland Army Depot when his kids were growing up, and would later retire as a distribution process worker. The family attended Fairview Brethren in Christ Church, New Cumberland, for many years. He knew every backroad in Central PA; his family bought him a GPS system that sat dormant and collected dust. Although the origin of his nickname “Butterball” is not known, it was fitting for a man who absolutely loved sweets of any kind, with shoofly pie, sand tarts, and whoopie pies topping the list. He enjoyed trips to the flea market and to the Haar’s and Manheim auctions, and his milk bottle collection seemed to grow and grow. You could find him in his woodworking shed, and his grandkids were only a few of the many recipients of his handmade furniture. Larry loved his family above all else, and they will forever be thankful for his wisdom (and antics).

Surviving Larry is his daughter, Stacie J. Blazer of Mechanicsburg; grandchildren, Jeremy M. Norris, Miranda L. Blazer, Kobe J. Norris, and Shayne K. Blazer; sisters, Shirley A. Snyder of Mechanicsburg, and Linda L. Aloise of Shermans Dale; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kim (Taeok) Blazer; children, Sherry L. Norris and Terry L. Blazer; granddaughter, Kristin J. Norris; and siblings, Phyllis J. Shoop, Charles W. Blazer, Ronald C. Blazer, and Dixie L. Runk.

A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Fairview Brethren in Christ Church, New Cumberland. A visitation will be held from 10AM until services begin in the church. Immediately following the service, interment will take place in Emanuel Cemetery, Lewisberry.
