Lewis J. Mummert, Jr., (age 91), passed away peacefully into eternal rest on the 23rd of July 2014 at 11:15 p.m. He was the devoted husband of Frances E. Mummert for almost 70 years.
Lewis was born on March 25, 1923 to the late Lewis and Elsie Mummert. He was born and resided his entire life in Lewisberry, PA. He graduated from the former Lewisberry High School and New Cumberland High School. Before transferring to the Counter Intelligence Service, Lewis served as a crew chief on the B29. After discharge, Lewis started a very successful career with Nationwide Insurance, establishing an agency which he managed for over 40 years and amassed numerous awards for his agency’s performance.
Lewis celebrated life by serving his community. He was a lifelong member of The Lewisberry United Methodist Church serving as the head of the first Building and Parsonage Committees, church trustee, teacher, and superintendent. He was also a founding member of the Annie E. Sterline Library, responsible for the reestablishment of the library in Lewisberry.
Other than when serving his community, Lewis had many interests. He had a lifelong love of flying and airplanes; he enjoyed travelling, bow hunting and reading. Most of all, he celebrated his love of his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his youngest sister, Betty Yinger, and his loving wife, Frances E. (Basye) Mummert, their children Alethia Sprenkle (and John), James (and Sheila), Cynthia Imhoff (and Tim), their grandchildren, Daniel, Lauren, Mark, Rebecca, Joseph, Julia, Kris, and Hannah, eight great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter.
