Lt. Col. Chester C. Westfall, Jr., USA, Ret., 89, of New Cumberland, died Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Twp.
He was a retired Colonel in the United States Army serving during WWII, the Korean and the Vietnam Wars. His accomplishments earned him the American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation (Germany) Medal, Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, US Air Force Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Legion of Merit Medal and five Overseas Bars.
Colonel Westfall earned his BS in Engineering from the University of Maryland. He was a master gardener and took great pride in his lovely yard. He traveled extensively, spending time in over a dozen countries. He enjoyed the History Channel and the Military Channel.
Colonel Westfall was born in Washington, D.C. to the late Chester C. and Madge (Hottenstein) Westfall.
Colonel Westfall was the widower of Virginia H. (Lasek) Westfall and is survived by his three daughters, Jean M. Gross and husband Frederick, Jr. of Almont, MI, Linda Renee Silkowski and husband George of Holly, MI and Tania M. Duncan and husband John of Angwin, CA; a sister Jean (Westfall) Anderson of Snow Hill, MD; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside committal services with military honors will be held on a future date in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Colonel Westfall’s memory are encouraged to the Wounded Warrior Project, Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675.
