Mary C. Lewis, 82, of New Cumberland, passed away Monday, February 2, 2015 in her residence Mary C. Lewis, 82, of New Cumberland, passed away Monday, February 2, 2015 in her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was a retired Register of Wills for Cumberland County, PA. Mary was the Cumberland County Republican Chair for eight years (1992 – 2000), and very active in Republican politics statewide including, President, New Cumberland Council of Republican Women, President of the Federation of Councils of Republican Women of Cumberland County, Chair of the New Cumberland Republican Committee Persons and PA Council of Republican Women where she served as President from 2002 to 2004.
Additionally, she was a graduate of Harter High School, Plymouth Twp. and attended Dickinson School of Law, Carlisle. Mary was a former officer of the Order of the Eastern Star, Steadfast Chapter, Camp Hill and a member of the New Cumberland Woman’s Club, New Cumberland Classy Ladies Red Hat Society, New Cumberland American Legion Post 143 Auxillary and the New Cumberland Olde Towne Association.
Mary was born in Plymouth, PA to the late George Michak and Mary Mathews Michak Warke. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Benjamin “Butch” Lewis and a brother George “Buddy” Michak.
Mary was the widow of Raymond D. Lewis and is survived by her sons, Douglas B. and wife Tracey of Fairview Twp. and Robert D. and wife Cindy of Lewisberry; brother and sister, Timothy Warke and wife Nona and Joanne “Joanie” Dokus; grandchildren, Douglas William Lewis and wife Amy, Ryan Patricia Lewis, J.R. Lewis and fiancée Tiffany Sellers; great grandchildren, Hunter Douglas Lewis, Madison Lewis, Eli Lewis, Hunter Michael Lewis and Beau Lewis; and her canine companion Reno.
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, February 5, 2015 in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Visitation will be two hours prior to services Thursday in the funeral home. Private committal services will be held at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Twp.
